Parent's Newsletter - 28.06.24
Dear Parent/Carer,
The school has felt incredibly quiet without our Y10 students this week. As a staff team, we have all enjoyed the opportunity to visit our Y10s in their work experience placements; a reminder of the importance of such an opportunity for our students. Our KS3 students have shone in our Peer Review on Tuesday and responded brilliantly to the midweek uniform adaptation. Thursday evening, we welcomed our rising Y7 parents and carers to part one of their Induction into Kingshill. Our Y10 student leaders joined us to share their experience of the STEPs and the range of extra-curricular activities they take part in.
Peer Review
On Tuesday we welcomed our external reviewers who spent the day in KS3 lessons, looking at student work, conducting student and staff voice and listening to leaders on strategies that have been embedded. We await the final report but in the feedback session at the end of the day, they unanimously recognised the aspirational culture and ethos that has been generated over the past year and most importantly recognised that it has been adopted by all. They talked about our amazingly articulate and confident students who stated that not only are they ‘proud of themselves’ but equally ‘proud of their school.’ Of course, they highlighted potential next steps, but we were delighted to hear that these were in line with our own thinking and plans for next year.
Farewell
After 19 years of service to Cirencester Kingshill, we were very sad today to say goodbye to Mr Duncan Evans who has been our most fantastic Network Manager. Duncan has offered so much beyond his role in supporting the life of the school – he is a key component who will be sorely missed by both students and staff. Duncan is moving on to a promotion at Stroud High for Girls and we wish him all the very best for his next chapter.
Author Visit
This week Year 7 had the fantastic opportunity to have their second author visit of the year! The joyfully dynamic Jo Cotterill spent a whole period talking to the year group about her experience with stories as a child and how they helped her navigate her teenage struggles, as well as her journey to become a renowned author. The students were engaged and enthusiastic and came up with some brilliant ideas for a story which I think we'd all happily read!
2024 Olympics Menu
To celebrate the 2024 Olympics, from 8th July, the kitchen team will be including a daily item from some of the countries that will be taking part in the Olympics. Items such as Chicken Bifana (Portugal), Mushroom Zapiekanka (Poland), Fuggazetta (Argentina), Tiramisu Muffin (Italy), and Chocolate Orejas (Ecuador) will be among the items included. The full menu with the list of countries will be available on the school website: School Lunch Menu - Cirencester Kingshill School
Cotswolds Way Ultra Challenge – Brain Tumour Charity
A staggering £4,165 raised for The Brain Tumour charity. Miss Herbert, Miss Jones, Mr Radbourne and Mr Stillman showed amazing resilience last weekend by completing the Cotswold Way Ultra Challenge. They walked an incredible 100km through the night without sleep! They were joined on the very hilly first 50km by Mrs Vine, Mrs Winsor and Mr Lee. 100km is the equivalent of walking from Cirencester to Birmingham! We are incredibly proud of their efforts to ignore the blisters, sore limbs and sunburn and to finish with smiles on their faces. If you’d still like to donate, you can do so here.
Rotary Youth Speaks Showcase
Three of our students participated in the annual Rotary Youth Speaks Showcase at the Royal Agricultural University on Tuesday Evening. Robert (Year 8), Lily (Year 9) and Ruby (Year 10), were selected from our Kingshill heats to represent the school at this prestigious event. Each of our students delivered their presentations in the Parkinson Lecture Theatre with real confidence and eloquence and were a credit to Kingshill. The standard of speeches was incredibly high and we were so proud to see our students compete with some of the best public speakers across four of our local secondary schools.
Bronze Champion School Status
A massive thank you from the Southwest England Youth Engagement Advisor with NCS. NCS is proud to announce that Kingshill School has achieved Bronze Champion School status for Summer 2024 NCS residential experiences, with 16 students participating.
Eco Club
Eco-club continues to 'grow' and goes from strength to strength. This week we've started work on improving the look of our tyre planters, strimmed the verges, created a path and platform to our eco-pond, put up our new Eco-club sign and relocated a compost bin to make way for our new greenhouse next week. Great helpers from Y9 have joined the club in the absence of Y10 who were on work experience this week. However, we would love all year groups to come along and help out - every Thursday - meet in S7.
Cricket Fixture this Week
Our U13 cricket team was in action against Farmors on Wednesday. Farmors: scored 35/9 (100 balls) v Kingshill: 100/2 (75 balls). Brilliant fielding by Kingshill. The team played with competence, confidence and were super competitive whilst maintaining a fantastic spirit and demonstrated all our STEPs. The team has had a really successful season winning the Indoor County tournament and making the Semi Final of the Outdoor County competition. We look forward to our last game of the season against Thomas Keble on Monday.
The Y7 cricket squad played 2 games against Farmors on Thursday. Kingshill won, scoring 69 runs/9 out to 18 runs/14 out in Game 1. The other game was won by Farmors. We had 31 boys all playing a full game of competitive cricket with lots of good skills on show.

Closing Remarks
We are all leaving for the weekend to reenergise in anticipation of the excitement of next week. As we welcome back our Y10s from their work experience, we will say farewell to our Y7s as they leave for their fantastic residential at Whitemoor Lakes. On Tuesday and Thursday, we welcome parents and students from our primaries for their Open Mornings, Wednesday is a day of rollercoasters for Y8 and Y9 and Friday we welcome our rising Y7s for their Kingshill Ready day. Who said schools slow down at the end of a term?!
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.
Kindest regards,
Mrs Jo Lindley
