Dear Parent/Carer,
Matilda has been the sold-out showstopper of the week ! What a cast and what a performance – they raised the roof all week and the audience couldn’t have been more proud. An enormous thank you to all the staff team and Friends of Kingshill who supported the event and a huge congratulations to our brilliant students on their performances – so many of our students who watched Matilda have been utterly inspired to take part in future events – what will it be next year?!
Y9 Buddies
Our Y9 buddies have been exceptional transition buddies for both 155 Y7 students last Friday and 162 Y5 students on Monday. They stepped up beyond measure in their support of the primary pupils ensuring they felt safe, supported and most importantly had an amazing experience with us. Their Kindness displayed was inspirational and as a result, they will be in for a treat next week!
Sports Day and Charity Fair
In view of the weather forecast, we have made the decision to move Sports Day from Monday to Thursday next week. This will mean that students will need to be in usual school uniform on Monday but can wear their PE kits on the Thursday instead.
The Charity Fair will still be running as scheduled towards the end of Thursday afternoon and students are encouraged to bring plenty of loose change to spend on the wide range of stalls. All money raised will be donated to The Brain Tumour Society. A full schedule of the day will be published to students early next week.
Better weather will make for a better day!
New School Day Schedule
Y11 Prom
What a night! What a Year Group! Even the drizzle couldn't dampen the spirits of this most remarkable cohort of fabulous young people! After arrivals in style ranging from quad bikes to tractors, from Bentleys to Lambos the students personified Kingshill at its very best. After a fine gourmet meal (of chicken and chips) cohort 2024 tore up the dance floor from start to finish. Compliments from the hotel staff, describing our Year 11s as the best prom group of the season left us feeling proud and elated.
We are so very proud of the fine young people you have all become - your legacy is secure for generations that follow.
Cakes with the Head
This week, I met with the Y10 rounders team and what a tour de force they were ! It is no wonder that they have only been beaten twice in the last 3 years, their team spirit and determination was clearly evident as we discussed the past year and the triumphs they have experienced. As they departed for lessons, we were left excited for the netball season next year – hopefully, another reason for us to meet again over some cake!
Year 10 Tunnocks Teacakes
This week some of our Year 10s presented Tunnocks Teacake in a professional manner. They were given a selection of fruits, sauces and other decorations and had to come up with two designs. The standard was very high and it was a difficult choice for Mr Thomas who judged them. The winners were Daisy, Mia, Lottie and Kimberly. Well done 10X.
Comic Book Club
We are thrilled to share the incredible work of Ellie in Year 9, a talented member of our Comic Book Club with her selection of her captivating comic artwork! Since September, our dedicated Comic Book Club members have been honing their skills. They began by studying and replicating works from various graphic novels and manga, gradually developing their own unique styles. Through perseverance and creativity, they crafted original stories and transformed them into stunning graphic novels. We couldn't be prouder of the ambition and pride displayed by all our students in creating and illustrating their stories from scratch. Stay tuned for more amazing creations from our talented club members!
British Nationals – Barefoot Water Ski
We are thrilled to share that Jasper, Y10, put in an incredible effort at the British Nationals on Friday and made us all very proud! He secured 2nd place overall in the Under 17s - Juniors category, a remarkable achievement for his first outing as part of Team GB.
This is a fantastic result and a testament to his hard work and dedication. Jasper will be heading off to France for the UK Training Camp early on Friday, July 12th. We wish him the best of luck and continued success.
Shot Putt
We are thrilled to announce that Mary, an Under 17 girls' Shot Putt athlete, has been selected to represent Gloucestershire in the English Schools’ Track and Field National Championships on July 12th and 13th, 2024. This event, often called ‘The Kids’ Olympics,’ is one of the largest school athletics competitions in the world. Athletes compete at a national level for one of only 32 spots on the county team, demonstrating exceptionally high standards. Wishing her luck as she competes this weekend.
Closing Remarks
A final week of adventures awaits as we hope for sunshine on Sports Day and the Charity Fair, wish our Y10 geographers a brilliant research day at Burnham-on-Sea and celebrate our students in their final assemblies of the year. A reminder that the school closes at 12.20pm next Friday and then the holidays can begin. We wish our Y10 intrepid adventurers an exciting visit to Iceland.
Kindest regards,
Mrs Jo Lindley
