Dear Parent/Carer,
I cannot believe that 8 weeks have passed since we welcomed the students from their summer holidays and now, we are already at the stage in the year where students are completing end of topic assessments, gearing up for Mock Exams and we are looking forward to our festive rehearsing, ready for the Christmas concerts. The time has flown and as they say, it flies when we’re having fun! To help us inject further opportunities into our school day, Mr Thomas has spent this week relaunching the House system to our students. We are hoping for an official start in January but watch out for the first competition to be launched before Christmas. Exciting times and a further opportunity for our school community to grow stronger together.
Year 7 Assembly
This week, our Year 7 students held their very first assembly, and what a fantastic job they did. The theme was the Day of the Dead, and the students beautifully showcased this vibrant cultural celebration. Through colourful artwork, traditional stories, and heartfelt presentations, they shared the meaning behind this important Mexican holiday: honouring loved ones who have passed. They also provided top tips on staying safe and keeping our community safe over Halloween. It was wonderful to see our Year 7s come together to demonstrate such creativity, respect, and enthusiasm. A huge well done to everyone involved!
Y11 GCSE Drama Component 1
All the Year 11 Drama students did themselves PROUD as they performed their AMBITIOUS devised pieces. To complete work to this standard everyone needed to demonstrate RESPECT and RESILIENCE but most importantly (as ever) - KINDNESS. They just need to get their written supporting evidence done now.
Music Department
What a busy and exciting term it has been for the Music Department! Over 40 members of our school community have joined the school choir, meeting weekly to prepare for the upcoming Christmas concerts and our school production. They are sounding incredible, and we’re all looking forward to showcasing their hard work at the Christmas concert!
This term also marked the launch of our first lunchtime concert, which is now live on our social media. The students had a fantastic time and were treated to “Rock with the Head” as a small thank you.
We did have to say goodbye to Tim, our loyal drum teacher, as he moves out of the area. In his place, we’re excited to welcome Ollie Tanner from The Alternative Drums School. Ollie brings years of experience and will be a valuable addition to our Music Team. He also has a few slots open, so please reach out if you’re interested in drum lessons.
Our next lunchtime concert is set for November 21st! Students who would like to participate should fill out a form outside Mr. Ashby’s room and hand it to him.
Auditions for the Christmas concert will take place after school on Monday, 11th November, with a final chance on Thursday, 14th November. Students should be prepared to perform their chosen pieces for the concert.
The Christmas Concert will be held on December 9th at the Parish Church in Cirencester, starting at 7 pm. All are warmly invited to attend, and tickets will be available at school soon—stay tuned for more details!
We’re also excited to announce that planning is underway for our very first “Kingshill’s Got Talent” event. Keep an eye out for more information on this exciting launch!
Thank you all so much for your continued support!
Mr Ashby
Rock with the Head
What a way to finish the week with our talented student performers from our last lunchtime concert in for ‘Rock with the Head’! Their enthusiasm, skill, and passion for music brought such energy to the event, and it was a joy to meet with them today to talk about their experience. Thank you to each performer for making the event truly memorable—you’ve made the whole school proud!
Year 8 District Rugby Tournament 24
The Year 8 Rugby Team played in the District Tournament at Archway School on Wednesday 16th October. The team was very competitive and played well in challenging wet conditions against some very strong opponents. The team played 7 games, winning two, drawing two and narrowly losing 3. Two of these games were against the joint tournament winners. There were lots of positive performances from our Kingshill players, with special mentions going to Harry J, who scored a number of tries, and Dan P who lead the team superbly as captain. In addition to the very good performances on display, Mr Hamblin was very proud, once again, of the discipline and character displayed by all the Kingshill players. We look forward to more success with this team as the season progresses. Well done to everyone involved.
Rugby Wins
The Year 9 Rugby team continue to develop and subsequently achieve fantastic results in their fixtures. This Wednesday they beat Farmors 32-5, outscoring their opponents 6 tries to 1 with some ambitious and confident rugby.
Player of the Match went to Ethan C as he was constantly on the offensive when winning ball and scoring a really powerful try. There were a number of brilliant contributions once again with the team being led amazingly by Cameron P-S. Well done all, keep up the great work rate and positive attitude!
Year 8 and 10 Rugby were in action against Thomas Keble school on Tuesday. Both teams achieved comfortable and controlled victories respectively. The Year 8s won 8 tries to 0 with a large squad contributing to all aspects of the game.
The Year 10s won 34-7 despite a few absences. This shows a real strength and depth that both teams possess and that there is an abundance of talent, pride and commitment when representing Kingshill School.
Y7-11 District XC Trial
This week, several of our students participated in the Cross Country District Trials at Archway School. It was a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their endurance and athletic skills against strong competition from other local schools. We are proud of their effort, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the event. Well done to all who took part!

Netball
All our netball teams were competing again on Thursday in fixtures against Deer Park School.
Year 7s lost 7-13, but it was lovely to give our youngest players another opportunity to practice skills they have been working on in lessons and they are excited for their final fixture against SWR and the end of season District tournament. Player of the Match – Matilda E and Grace W.
Year 8s faced a strong opposing team, struggling to close down their attacking play and work the ball up court to our shooters. Final score 5-26. Player of the Match – Freya M.
Year 9s played a very competitive game working hard in the 3rd and 4th quarter to secure an 11-8 win. Player of the Match: Isla H and Eliza B.
Year 10s also fought hard in their match, demonstrating some excellent defensive pressure and effectively working the ball through court into our shooters. Final score 7-8. Player of the Match – Amity W……our Wing Defence/Goal Defence who very capably put on the Goal Attack bib to achieve our scoreline.
Year 11s showed great resilience against their Deer Park opposition after struggling to field enough players earlier in the day. Such is their desire to play in their final netball season at Kingshill that they have a core group of girls who continue to regularly attend training with our Year 10s and request opportunities for match play. They are setting a fabulous example to other students about the importance that exercise and sport plays in maintaining both physical and mental health during what is undoubtedly a very busy year for them. Well done, girls! Player of the Match – Meghan P.

Closing Remarks
This week, our Year 10 students set off on an exciting trip to Munich. They’re having an incredible time exploring the city's history and culture at the same time as putting their German skills to the test. We cannot wait to hear all about their experiences and a huge thank you in advance to the colleagues providing this brilliant opportunity! Meanwhile, during the upcoming half term, Mr Lee will be running the Venice Marathon—a truly inspiring challenge. We wish him the best of luck and will be cheering him on in spirit on Sunday morning !
We look forward to welcoming all students on Monday 4th November ready to start the school day at 8.40am, until then, I wish you all a wonderful half term break.
