Kingshill Newsletter - 22.11.2024
Dear Parent/Carer,
So many highlights to share this week – I honestly don’t know how we fit it all in ! Our Y11 students have truly shone in their approach to the mock exams and those of them who went to the theatre on Monday evening were outstanding ambassadors for our school; noted once again, by members of the public and theatre staff. I have been blown away by the ambition of our students in the House cross country – cheering the Y10s in on their final laps in the driving snow is a memory I will never forget! Y7s enjoyed learning about the roles of our professional support staff on Wednesday’s Careers Event and 8 of our students treated us to a wonderful music concert during lunch on Thursday. It is also worth referencing our amazing students who courageously stepped forward to be interviewed for the school video – the passion and pride with which they spoke about their school experiences was a humbling moment.

GCSE Awards Evening
What a wonderful evening we had celebrating the achievements of our GCSE students at the GCSE Awards Evening! It was fantastic to see so many students, families, and staff come together to recognize the hard work and dedication that went into their success. Congratulations to all the award winners – you’ve made us so proud! Enjoy some of their Y11 projects which were displayed for the event.
Old Vic Trip
65 Year 11 students travelled to The Old Vic in London this week. It was a wet, windy Monday in the middle of their mocks but our resilient students were ready to go.
As we entered the beautiful old theatre, which is situated in the heartlands of Dickens London, we all knew that Christmas had begun. Joyful hand bells playing carols, mince pies and satsumas - and most of all JOY! That all changed as the story of Ebeneezer Scrooge’s journey from darkness to light, from cradle to grave and from cold heartedness to warmth began. The students demonstrated respect and ambition as they watched this beautiful adaptation of Dickens' famous tale. As ever, Kingshill flew the flag for our school and several asked for us to set up our food bank station for families at Christmas. True kindness is what the play is about and our students demonstrate this.
Christmas Concert Performers
Congratulations to our performers who have made it through to the Christmas concert.
This event is being held on the 9th of December with doors opening at 18:30. Tickets are available at: www.ticketsource.co.uk/kingshillschool
Lunchtime Concert
We had yet another amazing Lunchtime concert this Thursday AS WELL as performances for the Year 11’s awards ceremony, also on Thursday. Many students pulling double duty. We are very fortunate to have so many dedicated and hard-working musicians. I am very proud of them, and I hope they are proud of themselves.
Instrumental lessons are available as well, if you are interested in learning an instrument, fill out the form here: https://bit.ly/kingshillmusiclessons
Y7 Professional Support Staff event
A huge thanks to all of the professional support staff who took part in our first ‘Meet the Professional Support Staff’ event. We commend our Y7 students as they showed great enthusiasm while learning about our staff, their roles, and the transferable skills they use every day. We encourage you to ask your Y7 child what they learned from the event.
Class in Action
Last week, our talented students have been busy! Year 7 have been baking delicious apple turnovers, while Year 8 have been crafting creative pop-up books. Great work, everyone!
Stay tuned for more exciting projects next week!
Year 8 Rugby vs Rednock
Our great Year 8s played Rednock last Wednesday 13th November. As this was a home game we were able to select 22 players. All 22 students played a significant part of the game and contributed well. It would have been nice to have had time for all of the team to play for longer periods within the game. All the boys were brilliantly respectful towards each other and demonstrated fantastic team spirit. The team has continued to develop well and played fantastic rugby. Kingshill won 45-10 against a competent and competitive Rednock team, who beat them in a festival a few weeks ago. This squad of players have a lot to be proud of and look forward to. Well done Team Y8, keep it up.

Y8 Rugby
We were able to play the Year 8 rugby fixture on Wednesday this week with Farmors, following a few postponements due to a Farmors school closure (last term) and adverse weather. Kingshill started extremely well competing against a strong Farmors side. Kingshill was able to take the lead early in the game and trade scores despite a good Farmors comeback. At 3-2 in the second half, Farmors were able to play some very effective rugby in the more challenging conditions. As the day light and temperature dropped, to almost freezing, Kingshill struggled to keep control of the ball and Farmors were able to score a few more tries. Despite the loss, our Kingshill players remained resilient and showed pride in their performances. On the whole, throughout this rugby season, the Year 8s have been great and their commitment has been second to none. We now have a few fun ‘game play’ training sessions left this term, and we are already looking forward to more opportunities to represent the school come next season. Thank you boys for all your hard work, it has been a pleasure coaching you this season.
