Dear Parent/Carer,
We are now 3 weeks into the new term and our students have continued to be superb. We experienced an incredibly busy Open Evening and without doubt, our students were the stars of the show; to hear them talk with such pride and passion about their school is utterly heartwarming. The Extend Fayre showed the ambition our students have to embrace every aspect of school life; knowing that it is as important to grow and develop beyond the classroom as much as it is within.
We know the value of and celebrate great attendance here at Cirencester Kingshill; without being here, students miss out not only on learning, but also the wider opportunities that are available each day. We have been delighted by the high attendance displayed over the first part of this term and are keen that it remains so positive. We have already recognised the superb GCSE results from Cohort 2024, but I wanted to share a further snapshot from the data. Those who were here 96% of the time or more achieved almost a grade more than they were targeted in their final results. Those students with less than 90% sadly achieved almost a grade below where they were expected.
Assembly
I was delighted to talk through the UP strategy with our students in their assemblies this week and show them how we intend to use data to support them. We have linked all the STEPs in our school to key data indicators and use a simplified colour system to report on these aspects of the students’ overall performance. Thank you to all our students for listening so diligently and I look forward to working with them this year to help use the data to unlock their full potential.

Extend Fayre
During lunchtime on Wednesday, we held our first Extend Fayre to help showcase the huge range of opportunities for extra-curricular activities that are on offer to our students. As part of our emphasis on rewarding students within our UP Strategy, we are actively encouraging all students to get involved in at least one opportunity beyond the classroom, to develop their overall ‘kindness’ score for their participation within school or community events.
Open Evening
A huge thank you to all the students who helped support us with our Open Evening this week, we were delighted that over 20% of our students returned to school to support us and showcase their school. The students, as always, demonstrated enormous pride in their school and were wonderful ambassadors.
We’re thrilled to share some of the wonderful feedback we received from parents. One family shared, "We came away with a fantastic feel for the school and were so impressed with the students and how engaging the staff were in each of the classes." Many parents appreciated that we focus "not just on the academic, but on developing resilient, well-rounded individuals." They were also pleased with the "variation with clubs, sports, and lessons," and felt reassured by hearing about our careful transition from Year 6 to Year 7, noting "the STEPs and attention you give to ensure our children feel settled." With our "supportive staff" and warm atmosphere that "seems friendly, where students can easily settle in," we were proud to showcase our dynamic environment for all and what makes Kingshill a great choice!
New Staff Members
We’re pleased to welcome Poppy Sharrock, Teacher of Science, and Charlotte White, PA to SENDCo. Poppy brings 10 years of teaching experience, while Charlotte has over 8 years in school administration. Both are excited to join the Kingshill team and we are happy to have them.
Y7 Meet the Tutor Evening
We look forward to welcoming all our new Year 7 parents to the Meet the Tutor Evening on Tuesday, 24th September, from 6:00 to 7:00 pm. A separate letter has been sent to all parents with further details about the evening’s agenda. We hope to see you there and look forward to a productive and informative session.
Communication
A polite reminder to parents and carers that when emailing or calling in to school, we absolutely do want to respond to and support your requests. Please allow us those 48 hours to research and investigate. The right person will get back to you and we will actively seek to find a resolution to matters raised.
Closing Remarks
As we enter week 4 of an 8 week term, the resilience of our students will begin to wane. Homework is now a regular feature alongside after school clubs, equally the nights are drawing darker. Do encourage your young person into school each and every day, remind them of how much stronger they are than they sometimes believe. Take the time to rest and relax this weekend and we look forward to seeing them all on Monday morning.
